I agree, Robin.  We have all met the women who demand "all the fruit" when it comes to obstetric "care" .  It's commonplace in MANY institutions for women to have an epidural inserted BEFORE induction of labour, often elective for no reason other than convenience.  Sadly, there are also women who organise their own elective C.S. births believing they are liberating themselves from the painful drudgery of labour and birth.  This is the reality of much maternity care all over the country.  I know of an obstetrician whose wife had two elective C.S. I think there also exists a small portion of midwives who work within the hospital system ( and not neccesarily Private health care) that  prefer a more medicalised model.
