I find it very interesting that parents ask so readily in the system to have their babies weighed. I don't find my mums ask too quickly after birth and maybe a couple of hours pass by before I get around to it. Mostly mum has fed her baby and she has cleaned up and feels settled.  At this time I offer to weigh baby and do the physical check. Another plus for homebirth I guess, unrushed as apposed to the routines of hospital which is sad really. Shame mums and dad's can't have as a relaxed adjustment into parenthood in hospital as they do at home.

Very interesting research Mary - however it is quite amazing how many couples want their baby weighed before even considering feeding!
And why do people insist on knowing the baby's weight in the old imperial system of pounds?? Even really young couples want to know the weight in pounds!
Cheers,
Sadie
