Hi It's a custom master page. I am guessing the easy way is to set a width to the outer div? Whats the other option?

You can always set the page body width via css or set the width for the outer div container in custom master page or change outer table width for OOTB master pages. This can be an easy or hard task depending on how you want to deal with it.
