Very interesting discussion on the role of money in p2p systems.

Here is a directly related paper, showing the role of prices  in
peer-to-per systems,

Peer-assisted content distribution with prices,
Aperjis, Freedman and Johari

And here is one showing that the loss of efficiency due to bartering
rather than pricing is at most two in p2p system,

Menasche, Massoulie, Towsley

The last paper is in line with the new generation trend suggested by
Iang. :)
