The 1700's that we primarily sell have a little house and no word. Same
with the Visors...we don't sell the 1500's anymore, since we moved to the
Visors. (We have a PSC-certified warehouse, so we can actually repair
the PSC Momentum barcode scanning modules...unlike the SPT 1500's, which
have had a really high rate of return during the warranty period for us,
but we can't technically fix them.)
Our end users tend to be people who don't want or care about learning the
PalmOS. They're just your normal people who work in warehouses, some are
police, some are bartenders, some are salespeople, etc. Many don't even
know how to use a desktop computer. Makes it kind of frustrating when it
comes to UI design, because I DO acknowledge that the Palm preferred design
methodology is "tried and true" and works well for lots of designers. In
the vertical markets, however, I've noticed that myself, and others who
also design for vertial markets, have found many situations that require
a more specialized and individualized outlook on design, mostly in order to
reduce our vendor's or our cost of training the end users, or enhancing
reliablity, or just simply finding a way to maintain an established process
when we port an application from one totally different platform to the
Palm. (We port a bunch of old Percon PT2000 and Percon Falcon programs over
from the Falcon's DOS...or that "OS" that runs on the PT2000...)
