I just discovered what I believe is a bug in the standard Palm backup
conduit for Windows and I was wondering what Palm folks had to say about
it.

The Palm OS supports database files with mixed case names. So,
databases named "mydb" and "MyDB" can both exist on the palm. Very
nice. What's not so nice is that if you set the backup bit, during
synchronization the standard palm backup conduit will create a file on
the pc for each database, one called "mydb.pdb" and the other called
"MyDB.prc". The problem is that Microsoft's fine (*ahem*) operating
systems can't differentiate between these two file names. The backup
conduit generates an error messaged identifying a "possible database
overwrite problem".

Now, I get annoyed perhaps more than anyone about windows file system
limitations, but they are there. Palm's backup conduit should be able
to work around them. I like the backup conduit because it allows for
smooth database restoration in the case of a replaced handheld. I don't
really want to disable the automatic backup/restore provided by it.

Has anyone else dealt with Palm on this? What's the best way to inform
them of this problem?

 Thanks.

Andy
