I'm having to change the name of one of my apps to resolve a name
copyright conflict. Legal issues aside, I have the problem of the upgrade
having a different name than the original app. Even with the creator ID
being the same, that would still result in 2 different applications when
the upgrade is installed, wouldn't it? The main reason for concern is
because, if the application is deleted and the new one put in, all of the
preferences and databases that were related to the old install are now
lost.
One way I was thinking of resolving it would be to search for the old
version of the app when the new one is started, and delete it if it's
there. I can safely do this by name and creator ID, I believe.
Is there any better way to handle this? ("better" meaning more supported
by the OS with less work on my end)
