Comrades

The PAC has not developed an economic policy document, and taken it through
structures for discussion and adoption at a policy conference. What we've had
are stop gap documents for elections purposes, and in most of these there
hasn't been any feedback and forums to ventilate the issues raised. This has
been our Achilles heel since the un-banning in 1990.
Individuals are asked with pressing time constraints to submit economic
policy positions, and these docs are often treacherous to say the least. I
agree with Cde Linda - but it's the climate of suppression of different views
that's to blame. Our national conferences are utilised by
counter-revolutionary elements to smuggle in Thatcherite policies. Even the
labour union segment of the PAC (whoever they may be)have sided with big
business - by their silence. The unions must advocate for socialist
consciousness among us, and take the lead for economic policy talks.
There are major developments in technology and world trade (and politics)
that have occurred since 1959. We must address these with fresh and innovative
approaches - and debate with the likes of Stieglitsz and US academic idiots who
push for "markets" to do as they wish, and cause crashes and their ripple
effects. We must make informed contributions to the economic crises of the day,
within the framework of our Africanist socialist democracy goals.
But bafowethu we cannot go on the same way things have gone on in the past -
when we formulate economic policy.

cde mduduzi,Its a very tricky and complex question you are raising, but
unfortunately it warrants a response. The economic policy position of the PAC
should be anchored on objective number 3 in the aims and objectives of the PAC
which is, the creation of an Africanist Socialist Democratic order. The
economic policy document I know in the PAC is the one developed by Dr Sipho
Shabalala titled " Some salient features of the economic policy of the PAC of
Azania" of which I am opposed to as it is too liberal and rejects all socialist
features founded in the PAC founding documents. On the basis of that document
PAC is anti-nationalization and advocates responsible privatization and its
comfortable with BEE. This is a position that contradicts PAC position as
enshrined in our founding basic document. In my humble view PAC made its
position clear from the onset that it seeks to create a socialist society
founded on equality of income and equal distribution of wealth. In my view PAC
should not be shy to pronounce itself on issues of nationalization as they are
founded on the very socialist objectives of the party. For PAC to achieve proper
land redistribution it would have no choice but nationalize land and then
redistribute accordingly among citizens. Our call for full employment can only
be attained under a planned economy as proclaimed by Sobukwe.Food security can
only be achieved under an economic system founded on the maximum satisfaction
of man's needs as opposed to maximization of profits for few
individuals. There's a lot I can say on this issue, but to be precise PAC stands
for a creation of a socialist order and therefore in my view PAC economic
policy is socialist and pro-nationalisation.I would add further tomorrow.
Thanks a million for a mind blowing quiz.Izwe lethu!Kwame Ndebele
