Here is more information. f5 is reverse f6 fast forward f7 pause [ sets start marker ] sets end marker use f6 to find your starting point then f7 to pause and set the marker. Use it again to find your end point then set your end marker.

Seems shift-E sets an end marker at the point you move to, and the field above that one will set a start marker. Markers seem to be crucial is understanding how GW works and is a point of difference with Sound Forge where markers are more a convenience than being obligatory.
