Subject: I highly recommend MLB At Bat for this year
Hi.
MLB.COM has changed things, as usual for those of us who want to hear the
audio feeds of our favorite teams. Before you figure that it means more
trouble for those of us who use assistive technology, I have good news.
The
player that everybody uses is quite useable. Here's how to reach it.
First, go to
http://mlb.com
Once the page loads, look for the word VIDEO on the page, and activate
this
link. You'll find a table on this page with all the video and audio
feeds.
Select the feed you want.
A new window should open. At this point, if you haven't done it yet, log
onto your account. You'll hear the audio of the game at a quite reduced
volume.
Now comes the fun. With JAWS 11, you'll need to turn off the virtual
cursor. Do this with INSERT+Z. Then hit U to increase the volume or D to
decrease it. Once you have the volume set to where you want, hit INSERT+Z
to turn on the virtual cursor. I don't know how to turn off the similar
feature in Window-Eyes, or what it's called.
That's what I've discovered about the player so far. I noticed you can
switch between the home and away feed of the game. Also, there is an FAQ
specificly written for use with screen readers, and they mention JAWS.
I originally wasn't going to subscribe to what was called Gameday Audio,
which this year is MLB At Bat. I have XM, which broadcasts the home feeds
of MLB games. I then remembered that I could hear archived games, and the
white noise from the crowd is a nice thing for me to go to sleep with.
I'm
sure glad I subscribed. Right now I'm hearing the Reds beating the Cubs.
This is quite unique. Usually, when I write notes like this, they're
getting killed. Perhaps this is a sign of things to come.
Just thought I'd share.
Have a good day, and don't work too hard.
