OK now, just to set the record straight, someone was asking about using MSOffice on the Mac, and that was what I was referencing. You are definitely right, audio and music questions are very much on topic. I didn't want to add to what I thought might be a continuation of the subject of word processors and the like by asking the question I did, however, I thought with the set of Mac users on this list, that someone might reply to my query in private and direct me to a web site where I might find out what I wanted to know, or even better, about any experience they had using such programs with a Mac. I really don't want to have to go to the trouble of subscribing to another list, just to have such a question dealt with, especially since I specified private communication on the matter. I am not a Mac user at present, but was thinking of possibly making the switch as soon as I have enough cash on hand to give it serious consideration.

My reference to the off topic nature of my question was meant as self deprecation, not as a put down of any particular poster.

My apologies for your misperceived impertinence,

Larry

Well, I'm not sure how much talking about accessing music files on both a Windows PC and a Mac are stretching the list topic, since it seems pretty on topic to me, but asking about an OCR application on a Mac doesn't seem to have anything to do with this list at all. That's just my $0.02. It might be best if you ask this question on a Mac list.

Say, while we are stretching the bounds of the list topic, can anybody
briefly tell me about any OCR programs for the Mac that are comparable
to Openbook or Kurzweil for use by the blind. I'm sure there are
programs that will scan and convert to text, but what I'm really
concerned about is convenience of page orientation, columnization etc. I
looked at the page that Dane suggested, but at first glance, I didn't
see anything about OCR.

Any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated, and you can
send privately if that would be more appropriate to discussion.
Thanks,

Larry

Hello Vicki,
As you say, Itunes on both systems shouldn't present a problem.
Pages is a word processor for the mac, and will read, and save
documents back in to word format.
You would use numbers, as a spreadsheet package if you want, it's
fairly accessible I believe, although completely different from excel
for example.

VLC media player works on both systems.

We haven't really scratched the surface, but good luck in the new
enterprise.

regards,

Joe
