Does she use a router, a switch, or a hub
between her computer and the cable modem?
I had problems in the past that were caused
by a flaky router that drove me and roadrunner
crazy.
RR should install a PCI ethernet card and a new cable
into her 7500 for free before she spends any of
her own money on this problem.
