The usual voltage for a new battery is 3.68 volts (nominal is 3.6 volts).

A machine will usually become flaky at 3.2 volts, and will usually be
very flaky at 3.0 volts.

A battery which measures 3.0 volts or less should be considered "dead".

Some PRAM settings might remain "persistent" below 3.0 volts, but there
will usually be some tell-tale problems, like the E-net connection being
hung, or other problems perhaps related to the clock or the printer.
