Wouldn't this be impossible per the connectors?

In 1996 a friend who bought a lot of used equipment gave me a Seagate drive he thought I could use . but he didn't know it's protocol. I compared it to SCSI drives I had then and the connectors looked identical. Pin count and all. When I looked it up on Blue Planet the number was associated with an IDE drive. This waa old equipment. And the only IDE machine I have is a Performa 630CD I got in 2000. It's been a long time since I looked inside it . I am no expert on IDE and don't pretend to be. Just relating my experience.

And I read in a long past volume of "Repairing and Upgrading PCs " by
Que publishing that SCSI and IDE drives were at the time identical
save for circuitry.
