The Apple pre-Mach5 processors work only in pre-Mach5 mobos. The Apple Mach5 processors work only in Mach5 mobos.
The third party processors which are stated to work in either pre-Mach5 or in Mach5 will indeed work in both. Apple did not make a processor which would work in both.
