Greetings!

I hope you'll forgive the cross-posting, but I wasn't sure which lists this question applied to.

I have a beige G3 mini-tower (300 mHz, ROM Rev. B) running OS 9.2, which I am trying to set up with a PCI USB 1.0 card. I have tried two different PCI USB cards, both of which were advertised as Mac-compatible.

The problem is that, while Apple System Profiler "sees" the USB card, nothing happens when I plug a USB device into the card. This happens regardless of whether the device is a mouse, a USB flash drive, or a USB hard drive. The device won't work or mount, and doesn't show up in ASP.

I tried using the extensions in the Apple USB Adapter software from Apple's downloads site, which appear to be merely previous versions of various USB extensions (v. 1.4), but that didn't work either.

Any ideas?

I guess this meets the " once removed rule " criteria for this list.
But this question applies to all PCI Macs .

Try cleaning the slot with electronic contact cleaner.

Also reseat the card and look along the bottom edge to make sure it is fully and evenly seated in the slot.

Reset the CUDA switch . This should not be necessary for this installation but do it just to cover the bases.

Are you using the same cable to connect each device. What is it's condition. Can you try other cables? Are the ends clean?
Do the devices work when connected with other machines? Is there a hub involved? Try connecting without it if possible.

Assuming the extensions are properly installed, active and not corrupted the next thing to try if it still does not work is to put the card in another slot. It is possible a PCI slot has a hardware electronic problem.
