And by the way, I had just come home lasy night from fighting the PCs to get Mac data in. I was reminded of the trick of adding the suffixes.
I want to ask if you know of any way to get around this. If Pcs and Macs are on a network how can files be exchanged without the manual addition
of the dot something.? I am not networked but figured networked machines must have an answer. The PC nards around here just keep telling me
" you can't get there from here. " I think they just are uninformed or do not want to deal with it.
I just heard from the TV production director our G5 Macs will be history . The department is going HD digital getting a new facility and it will be
all PC -Premiere Pro oriented . And I haven't even started to learn Final Cut yet. that starts next week.
But even though the rest of the journalism / electronic media school will probably use Mac again we will have an increased need to get Mac files onto PC and the reverse.. And be able to read them. The idea that students, IT guys and professors tell me that theres no way to swap files without
adding the suffix ( some think there is no way to swap across platform ) just galls me.
I have volunteered for a project for a campus faculty / staff development group called the Leadership Academy. These folks if successful will rise in the ranks. I get exper.ience as a video producer and hope that if successful I will be pulled right along myself.
There is a large international presence here. And KSU has satellite study programs abroad. The video project is to be shot around campus as this is international studies week. And the video will be used to orient new freshmen in the future about cultural attitudes and exchange.
The ironic thing is that the cybernetic culture has not been addressed. We can't even get together in understanding between Mac and PC platforms!
Which compared to intercultural relations should be easy.
When they have AI Droids rolling or walking in the case of Asimo's progeny I wonder what their take will be on this.
Will they resent that their ancestors were discriminated against on the basis of platform ?
