Well lets see I have been using Macs since System 4.1, this was when I was a
student going to Cal Poly, Pomona. At this point I didn't have my own Mac and
I used the ones in the Labs, there were some Mac Pluses and some Mac SEs and
Mac SE30s. Being that is was a University Lab with no real supervision, I
would run across a virus every so often but nothing that wasn't taken care of
by Disinfectant. This was from System 4.1 to System 6.05 and in Disinfectant
there was list of Mac Viruses and what they did.
There were never very many of them and none of them were harmful as I recall.
When Apple released OS 7 I believe that it broke all of the old Viruses.
In 1991 I got my own Quadra 610 and it ran OS 7.1 and I got on the Internet
at my house in 1997 and I did get one notice from MacAddict that one of their
CDs was infected with the AutoStart Worm, one that only worked on PPC Macs
and those needed to have AutoStart on in QuickTime Settings.
The AutoStart Worm was about the only one that I know of since OS 7 came out
until OS 9.2.2, maybe there was one more not really sure as I have never seen
it. There are no viruses at all for Mac OS X.
