What do you mean by split screen? How do you do this with one card? Anyway:
I once had a Twin Turbo with one port and  ran another monitor off of 
the native Mac port on the machine. But they both " mirrored " (?)
eanc other rather than one being the extension of the other.

I want my work screen on one monitor and the extensive menus for 
tools etc on the other.

Good thing the utilities are included in the rent.
