Often I see that for video work 700MHz is recommended. Maybe a
processor upgrade would solve your problem?

Hi All,
I'm slightly new to this list, I've been lurking for a month
or so. I recently picked up a PowerMac G4 (PCI video) 350Mhz, which
I've been working on upgrading.
I've added a DVD-RW drive, and two 80gig HDs which I've
configured in a stripping raid. I've upgraded the ram to 448 megs,
I also added a scsi controller and a zip drive. I plan to add a
Video capture card and use the machine as a type of media server.
It still has the original 16meg RAGE 128 video card, it plays DVDs
without any problem, but playing high quality mpeg2 or AVI files
causes frames to be lost. Which detracts a lot from the experience.
What sort of a problem am I looking at here? If I wanted to
eliminate the frame dropping problem, what would be my next best
upgrade step? I've been looking at better video cards, the best
that I think there is the ATI radeon 9200 w/ 128 megs of ram. It
doesn't have any video capture abilities, so I'd still need to get
that separately. I've also been looking at some of the processor
upgrade options. I could bump it up to 500, 700, 800 or 1000 Mhz.
I could also increase the ram. It's running Mac OS X 10.3.9.
If I get the radeon video card, would I be able to use the
Rage Pro card at the same time as the radeon for dual
monitor/extended desktop?
Cheers,
Greg.
