Hi,
I'm Marcelus, 30 years old from São Paulo City, Brazil*, owner of a PowerMac 7600/132 CPU with 2GB HD/16MB RAM running Mac OS 8.1. Well, this CPU seems to have a problem: it doesn't turn on or shut down properly. That is, I can't turn the 7600 on using the power key on the keyboard or even pressing the power button on the CPU; the 7600 only turns on directly when I plug the AC power cord on the CPU. But when the power cord is connected and the 7600 is on... I can't shut it down or make it sleep properly. When I choose "Sleep" or "Shut Down" on Finder's menu, the OS close all windows and turn the screen off -- but I can hear the CPU power source and fan still functioning, as it was waiting for me to press some button to turn the computer off (as the same way LCs and Qaudras 610 do) -- but this button doesn't exist! So, to turn the computer off, I have to literally pull the AC power cord from the CPU. The most bizarre thing is that when I boot the 7600 using a Mac OS 8 Install CD, it's possible to make the Mac sleep and "wake up" properly, although Shut Down still doesn't work as expected. Well... does anybody here has a clue about what kind of problem is affecting my 7600 to behave this way? What would be the remedy?
