What does this do? SImply "warm it up?" And by "blank," do you mean "all
white" or "pure black?

Pure white pages. This is because frequently toner gets spilled or stuck on the drum and on the paper path. Printing pure white allows a "clean slate" sheet to pick up any excess toner inside the machine.

The office supply stores sell laser printer and fax cleaning sheets that do the same thing for $3-4.00, but printing 20-50 blank sheets (at 30-40ยข for the paper) will at least let you know if you are on the right track.

I remember someone joking about sending back pure black pages to numbers they had gotten junk faxes from. The idea was to keep sending the pages
until the ink and toner bills drive the junk faxers insolvent.

I use to do that, about 20 pages of black at super fine resolution if they had a toll free fax number. Not only did it eat toner and paper, but they had to pay for the call and 20 pages at super fine could take up to 15 minutes.
