I was considering a Verizon DSL account until the Verizon rep told me I need OS X. I recall a thread sometime ago about using DSL w/o using all the Verizon software. Could anyone point me in the right direction in the archives to that info, or does anyone have experience using Verizon DSL on a power mac (not upgraded to G3 or G4)? I have a Performa 6400/180, and am running OS 8.1

Thanks,

I have had Verizon DSL for a couple of years now. I don't think I installed any of their software. I have a 4 port router and a 8 port switch hooked up to my network and I have set up every thing from my G4 to my wife's PC to a Powermac 7600, even a Powerbook 520 (with the ethernet adapter) to my network with no problems. I haven't messed with OS 9 in a while, but I believe all you need to do is select your ethernet port as the port for TCP/IP and set up your internet connection to connect via DHCP. Like I said it has been a while, so I might be wrong. I am pretty sure you don't need any software though.

Thanks,

Kevin
