I take it that you are using that router and all is working.
It means that either you have a static IP and they don't use PPPoE
for your account or that they aren't using PPPoE in your area. The
latter is likely because they acquired an ISP who wasn't using it and
haven't changed things (yet).
If an ISP uses PPPoE it (generally) is necessary.
Not all ISPs use it, even for dynamic IP addresses. And it can also
be used for static addresses.
If it works without PPPoE enabled then don't worry about it.
