My recently acquired 9600 refuses to go online. Neither its inbuilt Ethernet nor an Asante Ethernet card lets it go online. With other macs, all I had to to was plug in the Ethernet cable, open TCP/IP, select the DHCP-option & close & save changes. Next time I opended TCP/IP, all would be fine with TCP/IP, IP-number, router address & subnet mask number. With a 9100, with a 6400, with a minitower G3, with my pancake G3. But not with this beast (running OS 8.6). A similar problem occured with the now comatose 8600 I have. It "admitted" having an IP-address, but still would not see the DSL router nor the switch I hook Macs onto. When I swapped the 8600s drivfe to the 9100 in order to copy out its contensts, then it insisted upon the 9100 having the same unusabkle IP address as the 8600 had. Makes me wonder if the IP address is somehow attached to the HD... I think if: I perform a clean install of OS 9.1 (and upgrade it to 9.2.2 w/OS9 helper), the IP-address should become ironed out.
