Frank, did you reformat your hard drive between installations of win98 or 
did you reinstall over win98?  Sometimes reinstalling over the previous 
will not cure vxd issues, so you must reformat and reinstall.  All the vxd 
files are on the win98 cd so you can explore the cab files if you are 
determined and extract them to a floppy.  Have you checked with Compaq
