I've never heard of that before with so many fans! Something
is odd. For one, you should be using a CPU cooling program
if you're not, ~140F is just too hot. I use a PIII 1000mhz
and it never gets above 80 FAHRENHEIT with the cooling
program running, and never above 95 with it NOT
running.....and I use a stock HS & fan and no other fans.
May be something wrong with your CPU too.

It's *possible* the HS is not FULLY seated against the CPU.
What I do, is first put the CPU on to a HS with NO thermal
putty or thermal pads, etc., clip it down, then hold it up to
a bright light source and look for any 'air gaps' between the
mating surfaces of the HS and CPU. Wiggle it a bit too.
Look VERY VERY close at all angles. You'd be surprised at
how many CPU and HS combo's DO have a gap there. Even a
micron gap is too much and can fry a CPU. Once I've done any
bending that can possibly be done to insure a PERFECT mate,
then I put a thermal pad on. Never use putty or paste
because even the best can dry out over a period of time, then
of course shrink causing a gap. I get mine from 3M.

If you have a lot of internal IDE or otherwise cabling, it
could be interfering with proper flow from the fans. You
might look into round cabling. They make this for IDE, SCSI
and floppy drives and gives much better air flow, therefore
cooling.

Beg to differ here. I have a new Athlon 1800+ in a full
tower. 3 fans
(power plus 2 case). Have a Thermaltake MII cpu cooler.
With the cover
on, the cpu runs at 57-62 C. (and will thermal crash when
the temp gets
to 61-62C). The case runs at 27-29C. With the cover off, the
CPU runs
at 54-59C and case 25-27C and does not crash from thermal
(there is a
very recognizable effect just before it crashes when the temp
hits the
61c or so.). It is a custom built machine, the first of this
rating
that they built. I will be taking it back to see about a
more efficient
cpu cooler (have reviewed over 50 and found 2 that are
supposed to be
capable for the higher speed Athlons). These temps are
measured using
the Asus PCProb utility that gives the case and cpu temps.
