hi to all...

on a PC I have that is running Windows ME - I started hearing a clicking
sound like something being switched on and off... this has been going on for
about a week... just now though -- I heard it do it repeatedly...
in the past I thought that it was probably just the phone line doing a
redial... but just now it started doing it and continued... and then began
clicking with a 1 second delay then clicking with a one second delay and
over and over and over again... so I restarted the computer and got the
following message (it flashed quick so I am not sure of the entire message):
missing KRNL 386

this system prior to today had been running fine for weeks...

I started getting a message a few days ago on reboots that Windows had found
some software (to upgrade I suppose) -- but I have always been clicking
cancel on that --- is there a problem that I am unaware of that would mean I
should have clicked YES when prompted by that WINDOWS SOFTWARE question ??

or are these two independent occurances that are not related to the clicking
problem I am experiencing now ??

the computer will bring up the desktop -- but then stops (freezes) -- the
clicking continues...

any suggestions ??

thanks in advance for your help (smile)
