Nothing like a good flame war.
This post confuses me.
I am not aware of a standard for posting replies, other than the one Marlene
posted (Include info from the previous post, etc.). In other groups, most
members put the reply at the top. and the question at the bottom, but it's
not a requirement.
I use Outlook, but the following works just the same in OE:
To reply to a message:
Highlight the relevant portion of the message, right click, select copy (Or
use Ctrl-C), click reply.
You now have a blank message, properly addressed, with no footers.
Right-click, select paste (Or Ctrl-V), and the portion you copied is now
pasted in the blank message.
At this point you can type your reply either at the bottom or the top. I
always use *** as a separator for the reply and the question.
I prefer replies at the top because the subject of the email tells me it's a
post I'm interested in, and I know the content already. I can then read the
proposed answer by starting at the top, rather than searching through the
quoted material looking for the beginning of the reply.
This technique also has the advantage of eliminating signatures, which I
find annoying and irrelevant, especially after reading them many times.

Unfortunately, the majority of users here uses MSOE as their mail client
which (with the default configuration)does not follow some basic
principles of netiquette (bottom-posting for example).
