Yes most do own their own domain, but It's not just the
domain I was contacting, but the HOST of the domain and the
nameservers, which are usually different (not the same as the
domain name).

No one is going to complain to my ISP, for one; whomever I
send all the email back to in a counter-attack (if any REAL
email addresses are given), is engaging in illegal activity
so they are not going to complain to anyone to open
themselves for criminal prosecution. Hey, I wish they would
complain! That just might give me the "avenue" I need to
expose them.

YES, Asia Pacific (APNIC) is the one of the MAIN CAUSES of
the spam in the first place, they are co-conspirators in the
abuse with the Asian domains. They are a total waste of time
and space.

I created a couple of...."real official sounding, legal
sounding, *scary* email addresses" just for the purpose of
contacting respective ISP's & webhosts. I also use "VERY
STRONG language and PROMISES of criminal prosecution" ;-)
while quoting the laws governing SPAM attacks. I have never
received any spam on these specially created addresses, so
they are not spamming them back. (mainly because I would
guess, 99% of the time, I have no email address to email the
offender back, I can only email their hosts/ISP's, etc). I
actually have had pretty good luck getting numerous websites
shut down, as well as ISP accounts via IP address ID, and
many free email addresses (yahoo, hotmail, mail.com, Lycos,
etc). But unfortunately NO luck with the Chinese and other
abusive far east domains.

Clint,

> The emails are then fwd'd to ALL email addresses given,
including the 'abuse' addresses to EACH respected IP &
domain. Even when an abuse address is not given, I send it
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or .net, (AND .cn, .tw, .jp....whatever
the offensive Asian domain is) in hopes they will exist (they
usually do anyway). <

Bad technique! Too many spammers own their own domains, and
too many ISPs actively make money by selling rights to
spammers.
When you complain to [EMAIL PROTECTED] you are just
confirming
to them that you are a live target suitable for further
abuse.

Threatening spammers can get you on the "bad guys" list with
people like spamcop (IMHO another generally worthless avenue
of
_intelligent_ spam control). If Bellsouth were ever to
receive enough
complaints about your use of your personal e-mail address
they might
decide to cut you off with little or no notice.

I have found it to be a complete waste of time to complain to
anyone
in the APNIC group. One of the reasons I use Juno for my
e-mail is
that it has a nice incoming filter that can be set to
automatically
delete
mail from entire domains. For example, I have it set to
delete
everything from "asia.com", ".jp" "e54.org", and others that
have sent
me nothing but garbage.

The offensive mail still comes in, and I get a little message
each time
I get mail telling me that "X number of messages have been
deleted,"
but I no longer have to wade through it. Based on your
comments, I
have added "163.com" to my automatic trash list.

I wish there were some really effective methods of fighting
spam but I
don't think there is too much an individual can do. When I
wear out the
caption on my Delete key, I'll just dab a little red nail
polish on it so
I
remember what it is. :-)
