There are two ways Sue. You should do both. Up in the toolbar, under 'file' I think, you'll see 'export', and be sure you chose "ALL" and NOT just a 'selected branch'. Save it somewhere. I think for the other method you have to leave the registry, go to MSCONFIG and somewhere there is a button "backup registry". (I'm going from memory since I'm on an XP PC now). For that last method, I THINK you may first have to click the button to 'check registry for errors', then after it does that I think then it says something like "the registry contains no errors, would you like to back up the registry" or something like that, then say 'yes'. But, before you do that, search the HD for *.cab to locate where the registry backups are. They are usually in a folder called SYSBCKUP. It is either in the Windows folder, or windows/system, or windows/system32, can't recall exactly. But, you'll find them when you search for *.cab
The backup registry entries are usually called something like 'rb001', rb002, rb004, etc. They will NOT be in order! Names are given to these randomly for some reason. So, if you do not open the folder FIRST before backup up the registry, you will erroneously think that the newest reg backup will be the highest number. This is NOT always the case for some reason. So, with the folder open, you'll be able to see the latest backup since it will be at the end of the folder. You can also right click each one and see when it was created to be sure you know which one you just created. You must make a copy of that latest one, because if you don't, windows can delete it. It deletes registry backups at random. It will not always delete the oldest one! So, right click the new one and drag it somewhere, then 'copy'. Then you'll have a safe backup that will always be there. REMEMBER IT'S NAME. If problems turn up, then be sure that registry backup you made is still in the sysbckup folder. If it is, ok. If it's not, then you drag that copy you made of the backup back to the sysbckup folder, so you'll be able to restore it from DOS. If you have to restore your .cab file backup, you do that from DOS at the command prompt. I assume you're using win98. To get there just constantly keep pressing the F8 key while the PC is booting, until you see the menu. Hit the spacebar to stop the countdown. Then you'll see at the bottom to hit "Shift-F5" I think it is, for the command prompt. At the command prompt, type scanreg.exe and you should then see what to do to restore it. Again from memory, it will either say 'there are no errors', or 'there were errors and scanreg fixed them'. At any rate somewhere there you're given the option to restore a saved backup of the registry, and there it will present you with a list of the backed up reg. files, and chose the one with the name you were supposed to remember. To restore the reg backup you 'exported' from regedit, just click it. Now this method may have to be done, or possibly should be done in safe mode. I don't know since I've only restored individual keys using that method. Only do these after ZA has been uninstalled, then you have to do the 'find' in regedit to locate all the entries the tech tells you to find. Be sure you start each search by highlighting 'my computer' at the VERY TOP. If you don't, it will not search ALL keys, it will only search the keys below whatever you have highlighted. As for your wireless NW problems, sorry but I've never messed with those. :) It could be from ZA leaving something behind, or it could be not even related to ZA. From what you describe, it doesn't sound like a ZA problem, but a problem with windows recognizing the unit. Is it USB? I had the EXACT same problem with a USB DSL modem. Had to get rid of it. Post the details of the network if you're still having problems after removing all of the ZoneAlarm, Zone Alarm, Zonelabs, and zone labs entries. They are not case sensitive when you search, and for two words searches, you should just use the first word, because reg edit may not turn up results if the two words are wrapped.
