Just copying the file to your computer isn't going to change it in anyway. Don't save it while you are viewing it in a graphics program but just copy it from the diskette to your computer with explorer. Then you can right click on it and change the name to anything you want leaving the extension the same.
I guess you are thinking about the way .jpg files lose quality every time they are manipulated by a graphics program and then resaved. Copying them to you computer and renaming does nothing to effect the quality of the file.
