However, if that is your problem then you can get around that by making the change(s) to your jpg file in PaintShopPro and then instead of Saving it, select Edit/Save As and save it in .TIF format, which is lossless. You then still have the original .jpg image, unchanged, plus the new modified image in a .TIF file which you can now convert to .jpg without losing any quality. I do this all the time with .jpgs from my digital camera and it seems to work very well. Irfan view will also change the formats but (I think) if you do it in PaintShopPro, you may be able choose the size of your new jpg file, e.g. large, medium or small, which you may then email. I suggest you then delete the .TIF file as it will be quite large, but of no further use to you. I am not very well up on Irfan or PSP, but I hope this helps you.

How much quality does a jpg lose with ONE size manipulation? If you keep starting with the original file and resizing and saving, isn't it only like it was manipulated and saved only once?
I receive and send art files frequently to and from different people. Some have pc's some have macs. Some have sophisticated art programs, some do not. Sometimes I need to resize (about the only thing I know how to do)a file before I send it as an attachment to someone.
Most people I send art files to usually want to receive art files as jpgs.
If I need to e-mail an art file to someone who wants it to be a better quality than a jpg, I e-mail them the original art,(ai, or eps), but sometimes I wish I could LOOK at the ai first on my pc, and CHANGE THE NAME of the file without taking a chance on doing something to slightly change the original file before sending it as an attachment, but I am unable to open ai files.

PS Does Irfanview, or any other non-pricey art program allow a pc user to view an ai file?
So, for sure just changing the NAME of a file does not chang the file in any way, as long as I don't open it up first? Right???
Sorry this is so wordy, I am getting a little nutty with trying to explain my confusion.

Don't save it while you are viewing it in a graphics program but just copy it from the diskette to your computer with explorer. Then you can right click on it and change the name to anything you want leaving the extension the same.
I guess you are thinking about the way .jpg files lose quality every time they are manipulated by a graphics program and then resaved. Copying them to you computer and renaming does nothing to effect the quality of the file.

Sometimes I am given a diskette that contains art - either a jpg, or ai, or eps., and I would like to change the name of the art file before I email it as an attachment.
I absolutely cannot take ANY chance of changing in any minute way the virgin art.
I usually send it directly from the diskette, rather than saving it to my desktop and changing the name, even if it has a name I dont want to send.
Am I crazy?
