Iview is considerably less in many areas, but much much faster in 
viewing, rotating, renaming and saving as a new format.  In addition, it 
has batch processes to create slide shows that can be burned to a cd, 
sent to others, etc.  The number of features is longer than I can 
remember, but it does not do some of the editing that PSP and other 
photo programs do.  I have several other photo and graphic programs that 
I use when serious fixing, etc is needed, but when viewing my new photos 
from the digital camera, etc, its much faster to go through them (when 
in the folder, just the space bar moves to the next.)  Its a freebie and 
I wouldn't be without it.  Now as to the ai format. Can't say that I 
have seen that one, but if you would like, you can send me one off list 
and I can try it for you.  The great thing about Iview is that IF you 
use the "S" to save a file, it comes up automatically in the SAVE AS 
mode.  Helps to keep from overwriting, plus it will warn you if you try.

change the name of the file, but I am paranoid that I
am changing the virgin file in some minute way by
opening it up to change name.

If you will download Irfanview
http:\\www.irfanview.com

and install it, you can use it to open just about any
graphic file and 
then press the "S" which will bring up the SAVE AS
which will allow you 
to save it with a different extension and with a
different name if you 
like.  Its a very useful program even for resizing for
emailing.
