What can your budget allow should be a deciding factor, if you can afford it then a G5 does wonders with pricing starting at $1500 for a single 1.8 ghz, $2000 for a dual 1.8 ghz, $2500 for a dual 2ghz with PCI-Xpress slots, compare the models at the Apple store http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=PowerMac or http://tinyurl.com/f2xd

Similarly equipped Xeon or Opteron powered systems from Alienware or Voodoo run in the same price range.

OSX on the Mac is solid, no other OS besides BSD (which it is built on BTW) is as secure, it is quite intuitive and a breeze to acquaint oneself with. Same goes for most other OS's on the market.

A number of associates use both Mac and Intel/AMD based systems and all prize the Macs for dtp, video, audio, and graphics while Intel/AMD takes on 3D, database serving, and app development.

Howdy all,

Question. I have a friend who is considering a computer for his
wife. She is interested in art and graphics intensive stuff. I
suggested a Mac may be better for that kind of work. Anyone have
any direct experience? or recommendation?

I always use a PC, but have friends in the typesetting business,
etc. who prefer Macs.
