Well, it's for Java. ;-) Yes, to view........Java and Java
applets on webpages. On rare occasions you WILL need it (Sun)
with IE, I did, but most won't. I don't know if Deep Net has
Java built in or not, so you may or may not need it. I assume
you installed DNEx on it since I doubt it came with it
installed, so, Sun is already installed if it needs it.

I have to install it since FF and old Netscape needs it, plus
IE needed it at some sites that test broadband speeds for
example. I always disable it from loading to the System Tray,
and it still works. It's difficult to do this sometimes
because like that ridiculous Quick Time player, it's insistent
upon running at all times, and loading itself to MSCONFIG and
STAYING in the System Tray once a website needs it. Even if
it's not listed in the MSCONFIG area, it will still run in the
Tray so you have to either go to the Control Panel and open it,
then try to disable the auto load from there, or open it in the
System Tray and try from there.

Hi Peter,
It is a HP...don't say it..I thought it was a good deal...and
Dell has really lousy tech support.
Clint..yes this is Sun..but I still am asking, what is it for?
Just being able to view certain web pages,
or what?
I use Deepnet Explorer rather than Internet Explorer.
Deepnet is great as it remembers my log ins for each page..like
for bill paying and has a built in pop-up
blocker.

What brand of laptop Jeff?

I know some thinkpads sometimes come with the IBM JVM console
but
haven't come across one with the console set to load, the JVM
is part of
the system and runs in the background regardless of who makes
it.
