PCWorks: What's the gizmo?

Isn't there some hardware that you can buy that will protect your computer 
against power surges, and also will give you a few minutes to shut down if 
the power goes off?  What is it called?  Recommended brands if more than 
one?  Looking for something reliable--not necessarily the cheapest.
