Meir, do you get an "explorer.exe" or "IEXPLORE.EXE"?

I get multiples of the latter not the former.

Remember that "explorer.exe" is the shell that we all interface with while "IEXPLORE.EXE" is Internet Explorer.

Why Clint has 2 instances of explorer.exe running is interesting though.

Clint, I just checked, and every time I open a new I.E. page, a new
"explorer.exe" open's in the task manager
i.e. three IE windows open 3 "explorer.exe" files in the task manager,
when a close a window it closes in the task manager
Hope this helps

Yesterday I happened to noticed I had TWO "explorer.exe"
listings in the cont-alt-del "Task Manager". I never noticed this
before and I'm pretty sure I would have noticed it if they had always
been there. I did a system wide search for "explorer.exe" and only
found the ONE file that's supposed to be in the Windows folder, plus the
one in the DLL cache folder.
I of course ran the anti-malware programs (HijackThis, SpyBot, AdAware,
etc.), and did a manual scan with my AV software, on all partitions and
they are all CLEAN! (Yes, all hidden files and system files were shown
and visible during the scans). My Start Up folder has nothing it in
that I didn't put there. It does NOT show all of the time, sometimes I
cont-alt-del and there's only the one explorer.exe. I have had no
firewall alerts.
