Hello again,
From Hugh ... <snip> I expect I'll get Vista one of these days <snip> ... in
"Avg Free or Avast Free" posting, Sunday, May 6 2007 Volume 2001 Number 1493
When you do, maybe you can help me figure this out (I asked the group
earlier and got no response):
I bought my oldest granddaughter a Toshiba laptop. The salesman said that
all new computers come with Vista (I would have rather had XP) so I had to
go "Vista" ... and with the new experience of that touchie feelie mouse,
that's not really a mouse but does what a mouse should do, I had my fingers
all over the pad and the cursor was going in all directions other than where
I wanted it to go. (I have since discovered that it helps to keep all the
fingers away from the pad) Anyway, with Vista now, I ask:
1. Where are the original screensavers to be found?
2. How do you make all files visible?
3. How do I stop the mouse-overs? Files are opening up all around me without
my permission.
4. Here's another one; every time I want to delete or move a file, how do I
stop the computer from telling me that Windows needs permission maybe with
another two confirmations?
5. Finally (and I know if I hang around her computer, there'll be a lot more
questions), I lost the recycle bin on the desktop. I know it's someplace in
the computer because I'm able to delete files to the recycle bin (wherever
it is hiding). I can also undelete the last file deleted. I'd like to have
it on the desktop. How does one in Vista create that using the Registry. I
know the way to do it in Windows 98 (and maybe XP). NOTE: Since asking the
question earlier, I solved it by reinstalling the system (easy enough since
it happened way before installing programs and configuring etc.) but I'd
still like to know how to do it.
Btw, my original "Avg Free or Avast Free" posting never appeared in the
archives either but all youir many responses did. (poor logic) Maybe not
because I would never know what doesn't get posted. And it's not that I'm
looking for any 15 minutes of fame but thought it might add to your recent
information re. what emails are posted and what postings appear in the
archives. I'm sure eventually all that will be straightened out.--- Harold
