I've been working with Acrobat for six years and have had the misfortune to work with several Publisher files destined for high-quality printing. This is just nasty stuff. Most people don't know how to prepare the files for printing, and use RGB and index color spaces, lo-resolution files...the list goes on ad nauseum.

The program doesn't interface smoothly with the print Adobe PDF printer. I just tested two files (made with Pub 2003) and both barfed. I had to print a PostScript file, which took forever, then Distill.

For those that know what they're doing when they prepare the files, the program can be made to work. When I have to work with other's files, I need an extra dose of patience, pain reliever and Rolaids.

P.S. Most commercial printers don't want to touch Publisher files with a 10-foot pole.

Publisher will/can convert all colours to CMYK prior to print - don't have it (Publisher) installed on this machine, I'm at home, so can't give the actual path. Potential issues with rgb imported images - in fact there are all sorts of potential issues but the 'help menu' within Publisher is very informative on presenting a file for commercial printer - ther is also a 'Save for Service Provider' (Pack and Go) under the file menu which guides the unwary.

How many colors is this document? You may encounter RGB issues, too.

Subject: [PDF-Basics] Printing Publisher Booklet in PDF Format

I'm not sure this is the list to ask this question, but here goes:

The principal of my children's elementary school asked me to create a yearbook/annual, booklet style 8.5 x11 (which means printing on paper 11 x 17 and folding/binding, etc.) of approximately 44 inside pages and 4 pages of cover (front, front inside, back inside, back)

I am using Microsoft Publisher 2003 on a windows PC to create the booklet.  Where we are priting the booklet (the public school's print shop) they use ONLY mac computers so they want the file in PDF or Postscript format.
The problem I am having is that behind the scenes, Publisher creates the pages in the proper order for printing, even though what you see on screen shows the booklet pages in numerical order.  When I save the publisher file in PDF format (I'm using a printer driver called pdfFactory (http://www.fineprint.com/products/pdffactory/index.html) as I don't have Adobe Acrobat, the pages don't get set up in "booklet" fashion, therefore they are not in the correct order for the print shop.

This is what the print shop told me to do and it is a lot of extra work on my part:

You'll have to make a 11x17 page in Publisher
and then copy and paste the pages in the correct
                printing order, not consecutive order.
For example the front cover will be on the "right" side
of an 11x17 and the back cover on the "left" side.

Is there a way to do booklet printing in a PDF document besides redoing my Publisher file by copy and paste?
Thanks for whatever help you can share.
Kory
