I like to think about Adobe Reader Extensions Server
(updated name) as a 'black box': you put PDF in and you get 'enabled PDF' out.
The enabled PDF has rights embedded in it such that when
this PDF is opened in Adobe Reader - the features you enabled (i.e. local save,
digital signing, comments) are turned out (for example - if you select
'comments' the commenting toolbar is available)
To answer your question - Your client would
only need Adobe Reader. They would not have to worry about getting 'back to the
server' at all. In fact, one of the cool things about an enabled PDF is that you
can work totally off-line and still fill and save the data with your form
(assuming you selected 'Local Save' as one of the features to 'turn
on')
I hope this helps

Subject: Re: [PDF-Forms] Saving information in forms
Out of curiosity, how does the Document Server for Reader Extensions work? Would I send Adobe a form and upon return it would allow clients to save using the standard Reader? Would clients have to download anything additional? Would the document(s) have to be accessed through a server? I seem to recall someone, probably Max, state that the "Server" was not actually a server...

Please keep in mind - to quote Max Wyss - Reader is a "READER" not a "SAVER". Someone will have to incur a cost to allow the end-user to SAVE form data./smaller>/color>/fontfamily>

If you know the exact number of people you will be sending the forms to - it's not that expensive (about the same price as equivalent seats of Approval).
It's only if you want to allow the form to be used with ANY NUMBER of users that it gets expensive...
