Creator of the PDF needs to set colors to "leave unchanged" and that should solve the K to CMYK problem.

If it doesn't you might look at QBT plug in (not too expensive and I think you can get free 30 day full function trial copy) This has option for "convert all text to black" But if you use that ALL type goes to black even reversed, so be careful

Subject: [PDF] Pagemaker pdf

First, let me quickly explain my situation. While I have no formal training & limited experience, I find myself in the postion of being resonpsible for pre-press production. I find from reading the posts here & in pdf basics, that on software & training, there is much we need, but at this point I have to work with what I have.
We will be getting a print job that will be created in PageMaker, then the pdf's sent to us. Our procedure is to impose the pdf's to Quark 4.1, then rip.  I'm concerned about the color. My limited past experience has been that the black text will be converted to 4/C. Is there a way around this, either when it is initially laid out, distilled or after we receive? I have Acrobat 5 and know how to correct color photos that need to be cmyk, but nothing beyond that. I'm dreading this, but the deal has been done, at another office, without any input from us. My only option is to get it to press.
Sorry if this is too vague, I really don't even know what questions I need to ask.
Thanks,
Jackie
