No, I do not think it is reasonable to assume anything when exchanging PDF files. This is why CGATS developed the PDF/X specification and Application notes for application developers and the vendors who need to consume PDF files for in imposition, pagination, prepress and print systems. http://www.npes.org/standards/cgats.html > > You can print to a PS file and have Distiller make the PDF. Here is what Time magazine recommends; http://www.direct2.time.com/d2time/Procs/procs_ill.html But I must say that Magazines and Newspapers have different requirements - that is why Enfocus offers different profiles for each... http://www.enfocus.com/support/pdfprofileslist.php Never mind the differences between SWOP and SNAP SWOP - http://www.swop.org/specifications.html SNAP - http://www.naa.org/preview.cfm?AID=1451 Here is an article about exporting print ready PDFs from Illustrator http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/18794.html > The one I did recently rotated my landscape file to an on-its-side portrait > (and I couldn't figure out how to restore it; was able to change the View in > Distiller 6 but not the way the file was saved). Well, thats is what you should have as a criteria, hope the links above help you get PDF files in the condition you require... ===================== Cheers, Michael Jahn 1104 Esplanade Suite 102 Redondo Beach California 90277 Home office : 310 540 6950 Fax: 310 540 8369 ===================== To change your subscription: http://www.pdfzone.com/discussions/lists-pdf.html
