You are assuming very wrong. Acrobat generates all of its own PostScript
when printing to PostScript printers. For the most part, it uses the PostScript
printer driver only as a conduit for getting the PostScript to the device.

You problem is most likely the printer itself which does NOT have Adobe PostScript,
but rather, an "emulation" of PostScript from a third party. That emulation is
known to be highly problematic. There are some firmware upgrades available from
Hewlett-Packard to fix some of the problems. You need to call their Tech Support
and get through to second or third level support technicians who will even know
what you talking about and be able to authorize release of the firmware update(s)
to you.
