I don't know who told you that, but it's completely false!
I've demonstrated publicly the use of SWF/Flash and Windows Media embedded in a PDF using READER! So if it works in Reader and in Pro, it will certainly work in Standard.
As for placing them in Standard, I have to admit I have not tried...
