Now we have 6.0 standard and not only won't it place those files, we cannot read our old PDFs with those files in them in Standard.

I've demonstrated publicly the use of SWF/Flash and Windows Media embedded in a PDF using READER! So if it works in Reader and in Pro, it will certainly work in Standard.

I wish I knew how! If you can also tell me how to place MOV and AVI files into Acrobat documents using Standard, that would be wonderful. I cannot find either described in the Acrobat 6.0 Standard documentation.

We have been creating student course portfolios in graphics and media arts using Acrobat 4 and 5. When we now open those portfolios in 6.0 Standard to add more pages or to review the documents ( or for me to grade them), Standard won't recognize the media placed in Acrobat documents created by previous versions. A portfolio with Flash files created in 4 or 5, for instance, opened in 6.0 won't play the media and gives the error message: "[Path] target.swf is not a supported file type. Would you like to choose a replacement file?" This message is the same for our placed Flash SWF and animated GIF files. Standard appears to be a stripped down version of what Acrobat used to be, to support building only paper-type Acrobat documents. I have concluded that Professional is the real equivalent of the old versions 4 and 5.
