I can't help you with using Acrobat links derived from Word. Is it too time consuming for you to create Acrobat form field buttons and use Javascript as the hyperlinking mechanism?

We have 750 links, each linking from a text version of a OCR-edited dictionary to individual page-scanned images of the original book. Tedious, thus error-prone.
