I am writing an application that embeds all the fonts used in a document as type1 because the format is a lot simpler that TrueType.
OK.
So if the user provides you with a TTF font, you do what with it? Convert to T1? Ignore it?
However I noticed that I am not including kerning information that in some situations makes the text look bad.
Kerning information isn't used by Acrobat when rendering. If you want text to be kerned, YOU must do it as part of your layout engine as then integrate into your PDF creation with absolute or relative text positioning.
