Adriaan, You might find it useful to take a look at the actual marking operators used in the content stream of your document. These operators define and place the text in your PDF. If the content steam is un-encoded you can use a text editor to find it, otherwise you'll need a tool like PDFCanOpener (www.windjack.com). Once you've seen the operators and read about them in the spec I think you'll understand why there is no such thing as String Alignment in PDF Content.
