you get more latitude if the maximum brightness of the light is higher at
the maximum value and zero really is very low and noisefree. suppose the
maximum was 320 lux instead of 300. (numbers are pulled out of the air.)
there isn't any standard way of saying it in scanner literature. one of the
advantages promoted for the new Ektachrome G films is that they are more
transparent when completely exposed. that means more transmittance and
potentially more dynamic range, if the scanner's imaging element can handle
it.
